Report of the 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Chairman’s report

The Chairman reflected on the year’s progress and highlighted key developments in governance, membership, facilities, and community engagement.

  • The number of trustees has increased.

  • The Shed is continuing as a charity (CIO).

  • Membership has grown, including more women and younger members.

  • The website and Facebook presence continue strongly (thanks to Amanda and Lance).

  • Revenue from parking continues as the main source of income.

Tooling improvements

  • Bandsaw

  • Thicknesser

  • Drill press

  • Table saw

  • High-quality sander

  • Improved dust extractor

  • Rolling magnet for the car park

Building and facilities

  • Exterior painted

  • Substantial rear extension

  • New door

  • New heaters

  • Electrical circuits tested

Community support

  • Museum notice board

  • Bird boxes for Whitby Naturists

  • Playgroup sandpit

  • Church pews

Other projects

  • Individual woodworking

  • Up-cycling and signs

  • Very good sales from Shed-made items

Membership and welfare

  • Membership continues to grow well.

  • The Shed marked the passing of Dick Hoyle. His motto, “Thank you for being there (or here) when I needed you”, reflects the support members provide each other.

  • It is good that we actively support each other on and off the premises.

Priorities and actions for the year ahead

  • Improve clean-up after use, especially outside.

  • Consider a wood-store structure to the left of the Shed.

  • Utilise the outside sign/display unit.

  • Advertise for new members.

  • Increase member involvement in car-park parking duties (could be coordinated via the WhatsApp group or the noticeboard).

  • Explore additional sources of income.

  • Review opening hours, health and safety, and training; Lance will arrange specific training days for new and unfamiliar equipment.

Resolutions and decisions

Trustee elections: There being only six nominations for the six trustee vacancies, Stuart Purdie, Elaine Marsh, Olly Brown, Lance Garrard, Bob McGovern, and Chris Andrews were elected unopposed as trustees. They will serve for one year and will resign in thirds going forward.

• Increase member involvement in car-park parking duties (could be coordinated via the WhatsApp group or the noticeboard) Please add your name to the noticeboard or to the WhatsApp group managed by Elaine.

• Lance will arrange specific training days for new and unfamiliar equipment. Days and dates to be announced
