History

BayThorp Shed was started in 2019.

This was the fourth in area, following the Sheds already established in Littlebeck, Whitby and Staithes.

The premises we negotiated to use were the Scout Hut in Robins Hood Bay, which hadn't been used for Scouting purposes for more than 10 years.

The Scarborough district scouts were very helpful and obliging landlords, we were paying a fixed annual rent and originally opened two days a week, leading on to three and finally four by 2024.

From the start in 2019, sadly with a forced closure during Covid in 2020, we created the shed for ladies as well as gentlemen and we continue to appeal to both.

In 2024 we negotiated with the Scout organisation to purchase the RHB hut, giving ourselves full control of our destiny.

The Shed was purchased with generous help from two charities. It was bought with the aim of providing a facility to assist others in the community. The Shed already provides assistance to several groups in the village, including the primary school, playgroup and Parish Church.

The Shed provides an important facility in Robin Hoods Bay and Fylingthorpe and continues to grow in popularity.
